🏡 Going Home for Ganpati Is More Than a Journey

For a Konkani family living in Mumbai, travelling to the village for Ganpati is not simply a journey from one city to another.

It is a journey back to family, memories and roots.

Days before the journey, preparations begin. New clothes are purchased. Things needed at home are packed. Children are excited about visiting the village. Parents start planning what needs to be taken along.

Then comes the day of travel.

The bags are packed.

The station is crowded.

The train arrives.

And once the journey begins, the excitement becomes real.

But in many ways, the heart has already reached the village.

❤️ The Special Bond Between Chakaramanis and Ganpati

For many Konkani families living in Mumbai, Ganpati is not simply a religious festival. It is a time to reconnect with the village and with family members.

After spending most of the year in Mumbai's fast-paced environment, returning home for Ganpati can feel like a completely different experience.

The moment the familiar village appears, the city seems far away.

The ancestral home comes into view.

The courtyard feels familiar.

Family members are waiting.

And finally, there is the home Ganpati.

Ganpati Bappa does not simply return home during the festival; he brings people back to their roots.

🌧️ Watching Konkan From the Train Window

The railway journey towards Konkan during the Ganpati season has its own charm.

As the train moves away from Mumbai, the urban landscape slowly changes. Buildings and busy roads gradually give way to greener surroundings and the familiar landscapes of Konkan.

For many passengers, the view outside the train window brings back childhood memories.

Some take photographs.

Some call family members.

Some simply sit quietly and watch the landscape.

And somewhere in the mind, one thought keeps getting stronger—

“Home is getting closer.”

🎒 The Ganpati Atmosphere Inside the Special Train

Travelling on a Ganpati Special train is an experience in itself.

People heading towards different villages travel together in the same train. Someone may be travelling to Ratnagiri, another passenger to Chiplun, someone else to Khed, while others may be heading towards Kankavali, Kudal or Sawantwadi.

The destinations may be different.

But the reason for the journey is often the same.

Everyone is going home for Ganpati.

Conversations about village preparations begin. People discuss decorations, family plans and how the festival will be celebrated.

Sometimes two strangers start talking and discover that they are from the same village.

Suddenly, the long journey feels a little more familiar.

📅 Check the Schedule Before You Travel

Passengers planning to use a Ganpati Special train should verify the train number, operating date, departure time, arrival time and booking status before travelling.

Special train schedules and operational details can change, so passengers should not rely solely on social media posts or forwarded messages.

Central Railway's official announcement provides the announced details for the 2026 Ganpati Special services. Passengers should check the latest official railway information before finalising their travel plans.
